Sheriffs fill multiple roles throughout our communities. Improving school safety and protecting children and educators is first and foremost on their minds. The National Sheriffs’ Association champions initiatives to promote comprehensive guidelines for preventative solutions and rapid responses that can mitigate the violence in our schools.
Along with that, state legislatures are moving forward to provide funding. Florida has passed a $900 million dollar funding bill to improve school safety. Indiana and Ohio have similar referendums underway that will target enhancing safety the schools in their states.
The National Sheriffs’ Association is working toward guidelines, asking questions and seeking answers on how to help local communities deal with the intensifying epidemic of violence. While it’s safe to say the first steps toward implementing proactive safety & security measures are well underway, the ultimate drivers and champions of these efforts will be us voters.
At the end of it all, actions speak louder than words. Voters must push for change. We must demand and approve measures that enhance safety & security for everyone’s children, grandchildren and educators. We can urge corporations to take heart and drive vigorous agendas to develop and offer solutions to protect our country’s very future, our children.
